Short answer
- 1 month in the USA: a 30-day plan from the USA page, 1 to 50 GB.
- 3 months: the USA 20 GB / 90-day plan.
- Up to 6 months: the USA 50 GB / 180-day plan.
All plans run on Verizon and AT&T, need only an email address to buy, and can be topped up on the same eSIM. No Social Security number, no credit check, no contract.
The 90- and 180-day plans aren't shown on the USA page, which focuses on 30-day plans. Use the direct links above.
USA long-stay plans
| Plan | Data | Valid for | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-day plans | 1–50 GB | 30 days | A one-month trip, a first month before a US plan |
| USA 20 GB | 20 GB | 90 days | A summer, a 3-month visit, a J-1 or exchange term start |
| USA 50 GB | 50 GB | 180 days | A semester, a long family visit, 6 months on a visitor visa |
Coverage comes from Verizon and AT&T, the two largest US networks, with 5G where available and 4G elsewhere. More in our USA network coverage guide.
Which one fits?
One month or less: take a 30-day plan sized to your use. If you end up staying longer, top up.
Around 3 months: the 20 GB / 90-day plan gives you roughly 7 GB a month. That suits someone with Wi-Fi at home or on campus who uses mobile data for maps, messaging and the odd video call.
4 to 6 months: the 50 GB / 180-day plan gives you about 8 GB a month over 6 months, or about 12 GB a month if you leave after 4.

How much data do I need per month?
| How you use your phone | Data per month | Which plan |
|---|---|---|
| Light: maps, messaging, email, Wi-Fi at home | 3–5 GB | 20 GB / 90 days |
| Normal: social media, music, rideshare apps, some video calls | 8–12 GB | 50 GB / 180 days |
| Heavy: streaming, hotspot for a laptop, road trips without Wi-Fi | 20 GB or more | 50 GB / 180 days plus top-ups, or a US plan |
Road trips use more than you'd think: navigation, music streaming and looking up places along the way add up, and motel Wi-Fi is often slow.
Staying longer: top up the same eSIM
Ran low on data, or extended your stay? You don't need a new eSIM. Sign in with the email you ordered with, open your order page (the link is in your confirmation email) and tap Add more data, then pick a top-up. Each option shows its data and validity before you pay, and it is added to the eSIM you already have. No reinstall.
We also email you when your data is running low. Top up while the plan is still active; once an eSIM has expired, buy a new plan.
eSIM or a US SIM? The honest comparison
A US prepaid SIM or plan wins if you need a US phone number. In the US, a local number matters more than in most countries: banks, landlords, employers, doctors and many apps send codes by SMS to a US number. If you are staying 6 months or more, a US prepaid plan is also usually cheaper per month, and many include unlimited talk and text.
Our eSIM wins if you want data the moment you land, don't want to hunt for a phone store on day one, or are on a short or medium stay where a US number isn't essential. There's no contract, no auto-renewal and nothing to cancel when you fly home.
A practical approach for students and long-stay visitors: land with the eSIM, get settled, then decide whether you need a US number. If you do, the eSIM stays useful as backup data.
What you get
The eSIM is a data plan. Your home number stays on your normal SIM, so you still get bank and 2FA codes from home. Over the eSIM, everything internet-based works:
- WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and FaceTime, including voice and video calls
- Uber, Lyft, Google Maps, banking apps, email, streaming
- Hotspot for a laptop or tablet
Your phone must be eSIM-compatible and unlocked. Newer US-model iPhones are eSIM-only, so they work with no extra step. Check our list of eSIM-compatible phones.
