Does the Google Pixel 10a support eSIM?
Yes. The Google Pixel 10a fully supports eSIM. It's a dual-SIM phone that pairs one physical nano-SIM slot with a built-in eSIM, so you can run two lines at once — for example, your home number on the nano-SIM and a travel data plan on the eSIM.
Unlike the flagship Pixel 10 (which went eSIM-only in the US and removed the physical tray), the Pixel 10a keeps its nano-SIM slot. That gives you the best of both worlds: use the eSIM for a travel data plan while your regular SIM stays exactly where it is.
To confirm eSIM is available on your specific unit, dial *#06# — if an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, your Pixel 10a is eSIM-ready.
What this means for travelers
Because the Pixel 10a has eSIM, you never need to hunt for a local SIM card at the airport or swap your home SIM out (and risk losing it). Instead:
- Buy a data plan for your destination before you leave, and receive a QR code by email
- Scan it once — the eSIM installs in seconds over Wi-Fi
- Land and connect — your travel plan activates on a local partner network the moment you arrive
- Keep your home number active on the physical SIM for calls and texts
It's the fastest way to get online abroad on a Pixel 10a, and it's almost always cheaper than turning on your home carrier's international roaming.
How to set up a travel eSIM on the Pixel 10a
Setting up a travel eSIM on your Pixel 10a takes about two minutes. Do it at home on Wi-Fi, before you fly:
- Buy an eSIM plan for your destination — you'll get a QR code by email (it's also saved on your profile page)
- Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs
- Tap Download a SIM instead? (or + Add SIM → Download a SIM)
- Tap Next and scan the QR code from your email
- Wait a few seconds while the profile downloads — stay on Wi-Fi until it finishes
- When asked, label the new plan (e.g., "Travel data") so it's easy to spot
When you land, open your eSIM-Now line under Settings → Network & internet → SIMs and:
- Turn Mobile data ON and select the travel eSIM as your data line
- Turn Data roaming ON for the travel eSIM (travel plans connect through local partner networks, which counts as roaming)
- Turn Roaming OFF on your home SIM so it doesn't rack up charges
- Keep calls and texts on your home SIM
Pro tip: Install the eSIM before you fly, but don't worry if it shows "No service" while you're still home — travel eSIMs only connect once they reach a supported network at your destination. The validity countdown starts then, not when you install. Our full Android eSIM setup guide walks through every screen with screenshots.
How many eSIMs can the Pixel 10a store?
The Pixel 10a can store multiple eSIM profiles and keep two lines active at the same time — one on the physical nano-SIM and one on the eSIM. This is standard "Dual SIM, Dual Standby" (DSDS): both lines stay reachable, and you choose which one handles mobile data.
In practice, that means you can:
- Keep your home carrier on the nano-SIM
- Add a travel eSIM as your data line
- Store eSIMs for countries you visit often and switch them back on for future trips
Do I need a special eSIM for the Pixel 10a?
No. Any standard travel eSIM works with the Pixel 10a — there's no special "Pixel eSIM." The technology is the same GSMA standard used across every eSIM phone. Just make sure the provider covers your destination country, and you're set.
What about calls and texts?
An eSIM-Now travel plan is data-only — it gives you fast mobile internet but no phone number, so it can't make regular calls or receive SMS/OTP codes on its own. That's by design, and it's not a problem on the Pixel 10a:
- Keep your home SIM active for calls and texts (that's the point of dual-SIM)
- Use WhatsApp, Google Meet, FaceTime, Signal or Telegram to call and message over your travel data
- Enable Wi-Fi calling through your home carrier if you want to receive regular calls abroad
