Does the Honor Magic 8 Pro support eSIM?
Yes — on the international (global) model. The HONOR Magic 8 Pro sold outside China supports eSIM, and it's generous with it: the global model handles Nano-SIM + Nano-SIM + eSIM, with up to two eSIMs active at once and 8 eSIM profiles stored. That makes it a strong choice for travelers who want to keep a primary line and add a travel data plan without touching the physical SIM.
There's one important honest caveat: the China-market Magic 8 Pro does not support eSIM — it's nano-SIM + nano-SIM only. This is the standard split for Honor flagships. So if you have the international model, you're set; if you have (or imported) the China version, eSIM won't be available.
To confirm eSIM on your Magic 8 Pro, either:
- Go to Settings → Mobile network → SIM management → Add eSIM, or
- Dial *#06# — if an EID number appears next to the IMEI, your Magic 8 Pro has eSIM
If either shows up, you can add a travel eSIM.
What this means for travelers
An eSIM turns your Magic 8 Pro into a phone that's ready for data the moment you land — no local SIM hunt, no swapping the tray:
- Buy a data plan for your destination and get a QR code by email
- Scan it once — the eSIM installs over Wi-Fi in seconds
- Land and connect — the plan activates on a local partner network automatically
- Keep your home SIM for your regular number
And because the global Magic 8 Pro can keep two eSIMs active at once, you have unusual flexibility: for example, a home eSIM and a travel eSIM both live, without giving up a physical SIM slot.
How to set up a travel eSIM on the Honor Magic 8 Pro
Honor's MagicOS puts eSIM under SIM management. Do this at home on Wi-Fi before you fly:
- Buy an eSIM plan for your destination — your QR code arrives by email (and is saved on your profile page)
- Open Settings → Mobile network → SIM management
- Tap Add eSIM (or +, then Scan QR code)
- Scan the QR code from your email
- Wait a few seconds while MagicOS downloads the profile — stay on Wi-Fi
- Name the eSIM (e.g., "Travel data") so it's easy to identify
When you arrive, open your travel eSIM under SIM management and:
- Set it as the SIM for mobile data
- Turn Data roaming ON for the travel eSIM (travel plans ride on local partner networks, which registers as roaming)
- Turn Data roaming OFF on your home line to avoid extra charges
- Keep calls and texts on your home number
No data after landing? Add the APN from your profile page under the eSIM's Access Point Names — some devices need it entered by hand. Our Android eSIM setup guide walks through the settings screen by screen.
How many eSIMs can the Honor Magic 8 Pro store?
The international Magic 8 Pro can store 8 eSIM profiles and keep two eSIMs active simultaneously. Combined with its dual nano-SIM support, that gives you plenty of room to work with:
- Keep your home carrier on a physical SIM or eSIM
- Activate a travel eSIM for your current trip
- Store eSIMs for countries you visit often and switch them on again later
Being able to run two eSIMs at once is a step above most Android phones, which cap you at one active eSIM.
Do I need a special eSIM for the Honor Magic 8 Pro?
No. Any standard travel eSIM works on the Magic 8 Pro — there's no Honor-specific eSIM. It uses the same GSMA standard as every eSIM phone. Just confirm your provider covers your destination country.
What about calls and texts?
An eSIM-Now travel plan is data-only: fast mobile internet, but no phone number, so it can't make regular calls or receive SMS/OTP codes by itself. On the dual-SIM Magic 8 Pro that's simple to handle:
- Keep your home line active for calls and texts
- Use WhatsApp, Google Meet, Signal or Telegram to call and message over data
- Turn on Wi-Fi calling with your home carrier if you want to take regular calls abroad
