Short answer

For 3 months in Europe while moving between countries, take the Europe 20 GB / 90-day plan. For up to 6 months, take the Europe 50 GB / 180-day plan. If you are staying in one country for most of that time, a 50 GB / 180-day single-country plan is the better fit. All of them are prepaid, need no ID and can be topped up on the same eSIM if you need more data.

  • Moving around: Europe 20 GB / 90 days or Europe 50 GB / 180 days, one eSIM for 41 countries
  • Based in one country: 50 GB / 180 days for Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK or the Netherlands (codes below)
  • No contract, no renewal: pay once, nothing auto-renews
  • QR code by email within minutes, set up before you fly

One country or several? How to choose

Pick the Europe plan if you will spend real time in more than one country. A study semester in Spain with weekends in Portugal and France, three months of slow travel through the Balkans and Italy, or a remote-work stint that moves every few weeks. One eSIM, no swapping, data works as soon as you cross a border.

Pick a single-country plan if you are based in one place. An Erasmus semester in Berlin, a long stay with family in Italy, a work placement in London. The single-country plan connects to that country's local networks and gives you 50 GB over 180 days.

Mostly one country, a few short trips? Either works. The regional plan saves you a second eSIM for the trips. The single-country plan only works in that country, so for a weekend elsewhere you would add a short plan for the destination.

Turkey is the exception

The Europe plan includes Turkey, but we don't recommend our eSIM for stays longer than about 10 days in Turkey. Turkish networks cut off foreign roaming eSIMs after roughly 10–14 days, even if you still have data left. A short visit is fine. If Turkey is part of a longer stay, plan on a Turkish SIM for that part. More in our Turkey eSIM guide.

How much data do I need per month?

How you use your phone Data per month What that means for a long stay
Light: maps, messaging, email, Wi-Fi at home 3–5 GB 20 GB / 90 days or 50 GB / 180 days is plenty
Normal: social media, music, some video calls 8–12 GB 50 GB / 180 days fits; 20 GB / 90 days may need a top-up
Heavy: streaming, hotspot for a laptop, little Wi-Fi 20 GB or more Expect to top up, or plan on a local contract

Rule of thumb: 50 GB over 180 days is about 8 GB a month, and 20 GB over 90 days is about 7 GB a month. That covers most people who have Wi-Fi where they live. If you work from your phone's hotspot every day, you will use more.

Staying longer: top up the same eSIM

If you run low on data, you don't need a new eSIM. Sign in with the email you ordered with, open your order page (the link is in your confirmation email) and tap Add more data, then pick a top-up. Each option shows its data and validity before you pay, and it lands on the eSIM you already have installed. No new QR code, no reinstall.

We also email you when your data is running low, with a direct link to top up.

Two things to know: - Top up while the plan is still active. Once an eSIM has expired, buy a new plan instead. - Buying the right length up front is simplest. If you already know you will be in Europe for 5 months, start with the 180-day plan rather than stacking short ones.

If a top-up doesn't go through, see eSIM top-up not working.

eSIM or local SIM for a long stay? The honest version

A local SIM or contract wins on two things:

  • A local number. Landlords, banks, doctors and delivery drivers often want one. Our eSIM is data-only.
  • Price over many months. If you are staying a year, a local prepaid or SIM-only deal in the EU is usually cheaper per GB. Inside the EU, a local SIM also works when you travel to other EU countries, within fair-use limits.

Our eSIM wins on:

  • Day one. You land with working data. No shop, no queue, no searching for Wi-Fi to book your first night.
  • No ID, no address, no contract. In Germany, for example, every SIM needs an ID check before it works. Some countries also want a local address or bank account for contracts.
  • No lock-in. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel when you leave.

A common setup: arrive with the eSIM, get a local SIM once you have an address and bank account, and keep the eSIM as backup data. See eSIM vs local SIM for a longer comparison.

What you get

Every plan is a data plan. Your home number stays on your normal SIM, so you can still receive bank codes by SMS, and everything that runs over the internet works on the eSIM:

  • WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and FaceTime, including voice and video calls
  • Maps, banking apps, email, streaming
  • Hotspot for your laptop or tablet
  • 5G where available, otherwise 4G

Your phone needs to be eSIM-compatible and unlocked. Check our list of eSIM-compatible phones.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an eSIM for 6 months in Europe?

Yes. The Europe 50 GB plan is valid for 180 days across 41 countries. If you are staying in one country, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK and the Netherlands each have a 50 GB / 180-day plan too.

What is the best eSIM for 3 months in Europe?

If you are moving between countries, the Europe 20 GB / 90-day plan. If you need more data or might stay longer, the 50 GB / 180-day plan gives you extra room. If you are in one country, the single-country 50 GB / 180-day plan.

Does the 180-day plan renew every month?

No. It is one prepaid plan that runs for up to 180 days. There is no monthly charge and no subscription. If you need more data, you top up on the same eSIM.

What happens if I use all my data before the 180 days are up?

Top up from your order page. The new data is added to the same eSIM, so you don't need to reinstall anything. We also email you when you are running low.

Can I use the Europe eSIM in the UK and Switzerland?

Yes, both are included, as are Norway and most of the EU. Turkey is included too, but don't rely on it for more than about 10 days there.

Do I get a European phone number?

No, the plans are data-only. Your home number stays active on your normal SIM, and WhatsApp, FaceTime and other apps work over the eSIM, including calls. If you need a local number for a landlord or bank, get a local SIM later; the eSIM keeps you online until then.

Do I need ID or a residence permit to buy it?

No. You only need an email address. There is no ID upload, no address and no credit check.

When does the 180 days start?

The validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, not when you buy it. You can install it at home before you fly.

Should I get a local SIM instead?

For a stay of a year or more, or if you need a local number, a local SIM is usually the better long-term choice. For the first weeks, or for stays of a few months without the paperwork, the eSIM is simpler. Many people use both.
